A recent video shared on Instagram has sparked widespread concern among consumers about the authenticity of packaged mango juices widely available in India. The video, uploaded by a content creator, allegedly revealed the manufacturing process inside a juice processing plant, showing how the product is made with substances that appear to have little to do with real mangoes.
The clip depicted a yellow liquid being mixed with red and orange food colouring, sugar syrup, and other chemicals in an industrial churning machine. The final product, which bears a resemblance to mango juice, is then bottled and packaged for distribution.
The video was captioned “Tetra pack mango juice,” implying that the juice seen in the video is representative of the popular tetra pack beverages available in the market. The content creator’s post quickly gained traction, prompting a wave of reactions from viewers.
Many users expressed their disappointment and concern over the contents of the juice. One commenter wrote, “I thank God for social media. I’ve stopped craving or drinking a lot of things that taste delicious. All these delicious 200 percent fruit juice, I don’t drink them anymore. It’s water for me— I drink tap water, sparkling water, whisky, or wine. God bless social media. I’ve seen some really scary stuff.”
Another user questioned the absence of real mangoes in the juice, asking, “Where is the mango pulp?” This sentiment was echoed by others, with one comment noting, “Other than mango, everything is there.”
The video also led some to reconsider their purchasing habits. “I am not buying juice in the store anymore because of this video,” wrote another user, highlighting the potential impact of such revelations on consumer behaviour.
The video reignited discussions about food safety standards and the role of regulatory bodies in ensuring that products marketed as fruit juices contain genuine fruit ingredients. The backlash against the perceived misrepresentation in the video reflected a broader distrust among consumers, who are increasingly wary of processed foods and beverages.
"This is how people get cancers even without smoking tobacco. Packaged cancers," a user remarked. One user stated, "Showed this to my 10 year old and she never wants another one. Mission accomplished."
A user questioned, "And this is supposed to be for CHILDREN???!"
