Days after Thyrocare founder and CEO Dr A Velumani opened up about why he prefers to hire OLA cabs instead of using luxury cars like his peers, the millionaire appeared to have been targetted by trolls. Hitting back at them, Velumani said that he would continue "to mentor for frugality".
"Troll me as much as you enjoy. But I will continue to mentor for frugality," he wrote on X, adding that his family, including his parents, wife, and children have been frugal and they enjoy life without splurging.
"I want my followers to teach their children frugality. Be frugal, be peaceful," Velumani said.
The founder of the medical laboratory company had on Saturday shared that his frugality has shocked his peers after an event at a 5-star hotel recently. "After dinner, I called for OLA. While waiting, many insisted for selfies. Long queue. All high-end cars of Rich are behind the OLA patiently. When I sat in [an] OLA [cab] it shocked all," Velumani wrote on X, adding that it was past 10.30 pm when he called for the cab.
Urging others to follow his footsteps, the Navi Mumbai-based entrepreneur wrote, "When you are tall. Be cool. Be frugal. Be humble. Rich and famous also respect. EMI gets high-end cars and an artificial high. But OLA gets you peace for sure."
While some X users offered words of support, others were not convinced.
"Contradictions of simplicity. Be frugal. Eat in a 5-star and not an Udupi," commented one user while another said, "OLA in a 5-star hotel! What a cocktail?! When you are rich you can do all such shi* and even manage to get so many likes."
