Goa sees 15% jump in tourist arrivals in 2010

Goa continues to be a popular destination for tourists as the coastal state received around 26 lakh holiday-makers in 2010, a 15% jump over the previous year, officials said today.

Goa continues to be a popular destination for tourists as the coastal state received around 26 lakh holiday-makers in 2010, a 15% jump over the previous year, officials said today.


Statistics available with the Tourism Department show that there was an overall 17% increase in the foreign tourist arrivals between January and December 2010.


A total of 4.41 lakh foreign tourists visited the state known for its sandy beaches. On the domestic front, there was an increase of 3.5%, they said.

In all, 22 lakh domestic tourists visited Goa as against 21 lakh in 2009. The months of November and December saw the maximum tourist inflow.
December saw arrival of 1.01 lakh foreign tourists in Goa, while the figure for the domestic travellers was 3.9 lakh, the official added.
