Dr A Velumani, the founder and CEO of Thyrocare, has sparked a conversation on social media urging recruiters to hire individuals from humble backgrounds for "'for long term success". Drawing from his experience as both an employee and an employer, Velumani shared his insights on X, highlighting what he perceives as inherent strengths in different demographics.

"Majority of born poor and/or parented, can simplify and solve big problems easily," he asserted, adding, "Majority of born rich and/or pampered can complicate and create big problems easily."

The billionaire entrepreneur's key recommendation for recruiters was direct: "Employ poor, village born, parented and fresher for long term success." He concluded his thoughts with a philosophical take on decision-making, stating, "What is easy to do is not right to do. What is right to do is not easy to do. Choose, what is difficult to do."

Sentiment shared by Zoho's Sridhar Vembu

Dr. Velumani's sentiments resonate with advice previously shared by Sridhar Vembu, co-founder and chief scientist of Zoho. The Padma Shri awardee has frequently encouraged Indian entrepreneurs to explore talent pools in rural India.

In a February post on X, Vembu stated, "If you are a smart ambitious engineer or entrepreneur with a long term horizon, rural India is a great place to build your dream." He also pointed out India's unique youth demographic, noting that "Unlike rural areas in developed countries, rural India still has youthful demographics - in fact better demographics than major cities in India, which rely on migration from rural areas for their talent."

Vembu, like Velumani, emphasised the importance of a "long-term horizon" for success and advised entrepreneurs to seek talent beyond English speakers, embracing native languages.
