Other users on social media also questioned the priorities of the airport authority. One person remarked, 'Focus on your responsibilities and work efficiently; there’s much to improve in your sector.' Another wrote, 'You should first start providing water at all terminals.'

The Chennai International Airport, officially known as Madras International Meenambakkam Airport (MAA), drew attention after it used its social media platform to share health and nutrition advice with passengers. What began as a simple message about the benefits of seasonal fruits and sattvic eating soon became a subject of debate online, as many questioned whether such commentary was appropriate for an airport authority.

On X (formerly Twitter), the airport’s official account advised travellers to make dietary choices aligned with Ayurveda. One post read: “Eat fresh, eat seasonal. Ayurveda emphasizes that fruits consumed in the right season are easy to digest and full of prana (life energy)."

A follow-up message added: “Instead of processed breakfasts, choose local fruits that provide natural vitamins, fibre, and hydration. Simple, sattvic food = strong immunity and a clear mind."

While the intention of promoting healthier food appeared positive, the message prompted pushback from both public commentators and travellers. Krish Ashok, author of Masala Lab, which explores the science of Indian cooking, criticised the choice of wording and also pointed to operational shortcomings at the airport. Sharing a screenshot of the airport’s post on Instagram Stories, he wrote: “Eating fresh, seasonal fruit is a great idea. But fruits are filled with fibre, antioxidants and sugar (not prana). Also, pls fix the cab pick-up point situation. It is currently causing more indigestion than out of season fruit."

Other users on social media also questioned the priorities of the airport authority. One person remarked, “Focus on your responsibilities and work efficiently; there’s much to improve in your sector." Another wrote, “You should first start providing water at all terminals."

A number of comments were more pointed. “Stay in your lane – or in your case in your runway please. Leave the health advice to people who actually know something about it," one user said. Another observed, “When you ask AAI to modernise Chennai’s airport on par with private airports like BLR and HYD, they become dietician and give us a diet plan."

Several people also made jokes about the situation. “Probably they recruited a doctor to operate an airport!" said one, while another commented, “Surprise, when Chennai airport changed as ayurveda hospital !!!" Additional remarks included, “Better concentrate on your work rather advising people," “Are you running airport or fruit stall?" and “Except maintaining a decent airport, Chennai (MAA) Airport is doing all other clown shows."
