Ace designer Sabyasachi is world-renowned for his work and it is a dream for a majority of Indian brides to wear a lehenga made by him. Even celebrities swear by the celebrated designer with actors such as Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif opting to wear lehengas by him on their weddings.
However, in the recent past, Sabyasachi’s collections have come under the internet’s ire. Mostly because of the “unhappy” and “sad” faces of the models showcasing the design. Something similar happened when the designer released his ‘Heritage Bridal 2023’ campaign, Pictures of the collection were shared on Instagram and went viral.
According to social media users, models in the photos looked quite somber even while wearing a saree by Sabyasachi. Some people even commented about the lack of a ‘bindi’ on the models and thought that they looked quite serious in the images.
Instead of the focussing on the designs, people were more concerned about the facial expressions of the models and called it the “mourning collection”. The post attracted hundreds of comments from Instagram users.
“Why are the models looking depressed? Is it a depression collection? Where is bindi? Freedom of expression doesn't allow anyone to make a mockery of any festivals,” a user wrote.
Another user commented, “When your product launch gets delayed from Halloween to Deepavali.” “They look really sad and tortured. Poor souls are not even happy after wearing Sabyasachi.”
“Who died here? Why do they have glum faces, as if your clothes sucked all the happiness from them?” a fourth user added.
Furthermore, fashion enthusiasts on Instagram were also not impressed by the choice of fabric and the design of the sarees. According to them, the pieces looked “dull” and didn’t seem to cater to a huge occasion like a wedding.
