Coldplay’s recently concluded India tour, part of their global Music of the Spheres tour, has been hailed as “absolutely phenomenal” by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who also extended an invitation to the British rock band to perform in his home state, Kerala, in the future.
Tharoor praised the band’s electrifying performances across Mumbai and Ahmedabad, describing them as unforgettable. He also endorsed lead singer Chris Martin’s shoutout to Indian cricketer Jasprit Bumrah, whom Martin described as “the best bowler in cricket.”
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Tharoor wrote, “Touched to see our very own Jasprit Bumrah get a shoutout from Chris Martin. What’s more, I agree! Coldplay’s five-day run in India at Mumbai and Ahmedabad has been absolutely phenomenal. Hoping Kerala gets its chance to host these grand-scale shows too! With our beauty, unmatched hospitality, and that special vibe, we’d be the perfect hosts. See you in God’s Own Country sometime soon, Coldplay.”

Coldplay’s India tour featured five concerts, beginning with three back-to-back performances at the DY Patil Sports Stadium in Navi Mumbai on January 18, 19, and 21, followed by two sold-out shows at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on January 25 and 26.
The Ahmedabad performances set a new benchmark, with the Republic Day concert on January 26 drawing a record-breaking crowd of 1.34 lakh attendees, making it the band’s largest-ever show in India. Fans hailed the Ahmedabad concerts as far superior in scale and atmosphere compared to the Mumbai shows, which, despite selling out in minutes, left some attendees disappointed due to perceived shortcomings in production quality.
In Ahmedabad, the energy was palpable as fans sang along to Coldplay’s biggest hits. The highlight of the evening was a surprise appearance by Jasprit Bumrah, who received a special shoutout from Chris Martin, thrilling the packed stadium.
To commemorate India’s Republic Day, Coldplay added a patriotic touch to their performance. Martin played piano renditions of "Vande Mataram" and "Maa Tujhe Salaam", which were met with thunderous applause. Concluding the tribute, Martin said, “Salute to Mother India,” extending Republic Day wishes to the audience.
Following their final concert, Coldplay took to X to thank their Indian fans. “Thank you Ahmedabad, thank you India. We'll never forget these two weeks. Your love and kindness will stay with us forever," read their heartfelt post.
Earlier, the band had shared a humorous post featuring a hand-drawn cricket ball captioned, “Ahmedabad, 1/25.” Martin joked, “I think even Jasprit might struggle to bowl with this badly drawn ball, but at least it is almost spherical. It is such a pleasure to be here at this amazing stadium and to play in Ahmedabad for the very first time.”
