A social media post about taking a work call during Holi celebrations has reignited the conversation around Bengaluru’s demanding work culture and the city’s often-debated work-life balance.
The discussion began after a post on X by a user named Heer went viral. In the post, she shared a glimpse of switching from festival celebrations to work within minutes, calling it a typical “Peak Bengaluru” moment.

“In today’s episode of @peakbengaluru. Played Holi till 10:59 am. On a ‘quick call’ at 11:00 am,” she wrote, capturing the sudden shift from festive mood to office duties.
Post sparks debate on social media
The post quickly gained traction online, drawing nearly half a million engagements and triggering a lively debate about workplace expectations in the tech capital. While some users related to the experience, others used the opportunity to question the culture of constant availability in corporate jobs.
Several commenters interpreted the post as a reflection of the city’s hustle-driven lifestyle, where work commitments often spill into personal time. Some users joked that the timing of the call during the festival season might be linked to performance reviews and appraisals typically held in March.
One user remarked that the situation sounded familiar during appraisal season, suggesting employees often go the extra mile to secure better performance ratings.
However, the post also drew criticism from those who believed the situation was avoidable. Some users argued that taking time off during festivals is a personal choice and said employees should prioritise their own work-life balance rather than portraying such moments as typical of the city.
A few commenters also brought up cultural differences, saying Holi celebrations are not as widespread in southern states compared to northern India. One user suggested that since the festival is not traditionally celebrated widely in Bengaluru, the person could have simply taken leave instead of attending a work call.
Others were more blunt in their criticism, calling the situation an example of “slave mentality” in corporate culture and urging people to reconsider their priorities or workplace if such expectations were common.
Despite the criticism, some users came to the poster’s defence, arguing that the reaction online was exaggerated. One comment pointed out that it was just a casual social media post and questioned why people were over analysing a simple moment shared online.
