The nomination ceremony for the 96th Oscars has begun and hosts and actors Zazie Beetz and Jack Quaid have begun to announce the nominations list. This year, the list is dominated by box office blockbusters Oppenheimer and Barbie.
The two vastly different films have been yoked together as "Barbenheimer" since their simultaneous release last summer, and now look set to go head-to-head for some of the biggest prizes at the 96th Academy Awards.
Barbie has been nominated in six categories including best actor in the supporting role, costume design, best actress in a supporting role, original song, production design, and, best picture.
On the other hand, Oppenheimer has been nominated in 13 categories including best actor in a supporting role, costume design, best actress in a supporting role, makeup and hairstyling, adapted screenplay, original score, production design, film editing, sound, cinematography, actor in a leading role, direction, and best picture.
