Nithin Kamath reveals how changing men's urinals at Zerodha cut water bill by 50%

The urinal company endorsed by millionaire Nithin Kamath, Ekam Eco Solutions, had appeared on Shark Tank India last year but had left without finalising a deal. Now, it is being supported by Zerodha's philanthropic wing.

Zerodha co-founder and CEO Nithin Kamath recently revealed that replacing the men's urinal at the company office in Bengaluru with a smart alternative that blocks out a majority of the stench has ended up reducing the company's water bill by 50 percent.

Taking to X, Kamath said that they have been using Zerodor by Ekam Eco Solutions for six months. The product is a retrofit device that converts conventional flushing urinals into waterless urinals.

The company was also featured in the business reality show Shark Tank India last year where they had pitched for Rs 1 crore for 3 percent equity. Negotiations with judge and Lenskart CEO Peyush Bansal fell short, and the deal was not finalised. But Ekam Eco Solutions eventually found favour with Kamath.

"We have been using Zerodor for the men’s urinals at our offices for the last six months or so. Our water bills are down 50 percent—we did not expect it to be this much. It seems like a no-brainer for offices, restaurants, etc., where we have managed washrooms," he wrote on X.

The Zerodha boss added that since they liked the product, they decided to support Ekam Eco Solutions via their philanthropic wing, Rainmatter.

"We liked the product because they are doing whatever is necessary to preserve water, which has become supercritical," Kamath said.

In a statement, Ekam stated that they have more than 45,000 units of Zerodor installed across India. "We’ve saved over 3 billion liters of water so far—a number that reflects not just conservation but a shift in how businesses view sustainability," it stated.

Commenting on receiving financial support from Rainmatter, they added, "With Rainmatter’s support, we are excited to scale our efforts, expand our reach, and continue building solutions that help businesses achieve their sustainability goals while contributing to a healthier planet."
