A 12-year-old boy was assaulted and allegedly threatened by a man inside the lift of a residential building in Maharashtra’s Palegaon area. The incident took place on the evening of July 4 at approximately 5 pm in the Patel Xenon Housing Project and was captured on CCTV, footage of which has since gone viral on social media.
The video shows the boy entering the lift, where a man—identified by the victim as the father of a friend—was already present. Without provocation, the man is seen repeatedly slapping the child in the presence of a woman, who attempts to intervene and restrain him.
As the lift descends, the assault escalates. The man appears to bite the boy on the arm and issues a violent threat. "Uncle entered the lift, he didn't say anything and just started beating me. When I asked him why he was beating me, he bit me and said, 'Tu mujhe bahar mil, main tujhe chaaku se maardunga' (Meet me outside and I'll stab you with a knife). I pushed him away when he bit me," the boy told India Today.
The violence reportedly continued even after the lift reached the ground floor. CCTV footage shows the man dragging the boy into the building’s lobby and continuing the assault in front of other residents and security staff. Security guards were seen stepping in to stop the man.
A kid was alone in the lift and didn’t see anyone around so he closed the door. Suddenly a man showed up, angry that it had shut. The boy’s father spoke to the media and confirmed that his son was on his way to tuition classes when the incident occurred. “My son was going to his classes. When he came from the 14th to the ninth floor, his friend's father entered the lift and started beating my son. He beat him till the lift reached the ground floor, and the thrashing continued till the lobby. The watchman tried to intervene. My son is barely 12–13 years old, and this man threatened to stab him,” the father said.
He further alleged that the local police had failed to take prompt action against the accused. “The accused is being protected,” he claimed, expressing frustration over the perceived inaction by the authorities.
As of now, no official police statement has been issued regarding the incident, nor has there been confirmation of an arrest. The viral video and allegations of police inaction have sparked widespread concern and calls for justice for the child.
