The speculation surrounding Kate Middleton’s whereabouts refuses to die down. After the manipulated Mother’s Day picture fiasco, it has now come to light that Kate’s senior staffers have not been able to see her or speak to her. One royal source told Us Weekly that Kate’s senior staff was caught off guard by the surgery announcement and has not been in touch with her.

For a quick recap: On January 17, the Kensington Palace put out a statement saying that Kate, Princess of Wales, underwent a planned abdominal surgery on January 16 and would resume official duties only after Easter. Royal watchers questioned her long leave of absence, noting that the last time Kate was seen in public was in December 2023.

As speculation grew about Kate’s whereabouts – the Princess was not photographed in public even after being released from hospital – the palace shared a picture of Kate to mark Mother’s Day. The picture was redacted by several news agencies over claims that it was digitally altered. Kate admitted to editing the photograph a day after it was released, but no original has been forthcoming.

Now, a source has hinted that Kate’s surgery was not planned, as claimed by Kensington Palace.

“A few of Kate’s senior staffers haven’t been able to see or speak to her, and they didn’t even know about the surgery until it was announced, so it’s caught them off guard,” the source told Us Weekly, saying the palace has been very “hush hush” about the whole situation.

“Only a few people know what’s really going on, and they’re tight-lipped,” the source said.

Another source told the magazine that Kate is “doing well” but does not want to share more details about her health and recovery with the public.

“Whatever the reason for the operation was, it’s of a personal nature, and Kate wants to keep the details as private as possible,” the second source was quoted as saying by Us Weekly. “Perhaps when she’s feeling up to it, she may reveal more, but she’s not making any promises.”

The sources said that even some members of Kate’s own family are in the dark about what is happening.

“Kate’s said she feels she’s entitled to heal and recuperate without all of this frenzied speculation,” the source said, adding that Kate understands the reason for public curiosity but is in no mood to feed it. “Neither Kate nor William think her medical records should be for public consumption.”
