The Uber driver’s dedication won the internet over instantly.

Bengaluru’s reputation as the country’s tech capital found yet another real-world example this week after a video of an Uber driver taking coding tutorials while on duty went viral on social media. The clip has sparked wide admiration and a bit of concern as people discussed how deeply tech culture runs in the city.

The video was shared by Kunal Kushwaha, founder of the ed-tech platform WeMakeDevs, which offers community-driven programmes to help learners build practical coding skills and prepare for tech jobs. Kushwaha said he met the driver during an airport ride, only to discover that the man had downloaded all of WeMakeDevs’ tutorials and was using them to get into the IT industry.

Posting the video on X, Kushwaha wrote, “Just Bangalore things. My Uber driver told me he’s downloaded all my tutorials and is studying those to get into tech. Good people, good vibes. I’ll be back next year.”

In the short clip, the founder is heard thanking the driver for his enthusiasm, before adding jokingly, “Thank you bhayya. I am very happy. Please focus on driving too.”

Internet cheers the driver’s effort:

The Uber driver’s dedication won the internet over instantly. One user wrote, “From driving Uber to writing Uber’s backend code.”

Another praised Kushwaha for creating accessible content, saying, “So nice to see videos like this. Congrats to you for making such good tutorials.”

A third user added that this wasn’t an isolated story: “He’s not the only one. Several Rapido drivers I’ve booked have also downloaded your Java playlist.”

Some users, however, raised safety concerns about watching tutorials behind the wheel. “Great… but why is he doing this while driving? Posting this publicly may send the wrong message,” one person wrote.

Another pointed out the legal and safety implications: “Ask your driver not to use mobile phones while driving. It’s dangerous and violates traffic rules.”
