JP Morgan's Jamie Dimon calls Elon Musk 'Einstein', signals end of long-running feud. Tesla chief reacts

JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon recently expressed admiration for Elon Musk, likening the billionaire entrepreneur to legendary physicist Albert Einstein during a conversation with CNBC at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Dimon’s comments appeared to mark the conclusion of a high-profile feud between the two business moguls, which stemmed from a legal dispute between their respective companies, JPMorgan and Tesla.

The rift began in 2021 when JPMorgan filed a $162 million lawsuit against Tesla, as reported by Forbes. In retaliation, Tesla countersued the banking giant, leading to a prolonged standoff. At one point, Musk reportedly told a JPMorgan executive, “F**k you,” while testifying in Delaware court in 2023. Relations between the companies were described as “very negative.” However, both lawsuits were dropped in November 2023, signalling a resolution to the conflict.

Reflecting on the feud, Dimon told CNBC, “Elon and I hugged it out.” He elaborated that they had reconciled their differences during a JPMorgan technology conference in March 2024, where the two held a private conversation lasting more than an hour. “He came to one of our conferences, [and] he and I had a nice, long chat. We settled some of our differences,” Dimon said.

Dimon’s praise for Musk was effusive. “The guy is our Einstein,” he remarked, emphasising Musk’s contributions through companies like Tesla and SpaceX. He added, “I’d like to be helpful to him and his companies as much as we can.”

The tech mogul responded to Dimon’s remarks on social media. Sharing a clip of the CNBC interview on X (formerly Twitter), Musk wrote, “Nice of him to say.”

Elon Musk, recognised as the wealthiest individual on the planet, currently holds a net worth of $433 billion, with most of his wealth derived from Tesla and SpaceX, according to Forbes. In comparison, Jamie Dimon, the CEO of the largest bank in the United States, ranks as the 1,237th wealthiest person in the world, with a reported net worth of $2.7 billion.
