Internet not impressed with Amul topical featuring viral ‘kiss cam’ couple: 'Really unnecessary'

The post drew mixed reactions. While some praised the brand’s tongue-in-cheek take, others questioned the decision to feature the Amul Girl in a context involving alleged infidelity. One user commented, 'Amul girl ahead of her time — please wait for your adulthood, dear.'

The incident itself has had serious professional and personal repercussions.

A moment captured during a Coldplay concert in Boston, allegedly showing Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and HR chief Kristin Cabot embracing on a ‘kiss cam’, has continued to fuel discussion online days after the incident. The viral video led to Byron’s resignation and now Indian dairy brand Amul weighed in with a topical cartoon.

Amul shared the visual on X (formerly Twitter), captioned: “Amul Topical: Couple caught on ‘kiss cam’ at Coldplay concert!” The creative depicted the iconic Amul Girl watching a large concert screen in shock as the cartoon versions of Byron and Cabot cuddle. The text overlaid on the image read, “Hum Tum ek camera may band ho!” — a pun inspired by the Hindi song “Hum Tum Ek Kamre Mein Band Ho” from the 1973 Bollywood film "Bobby".

A secondary line in the cartoon stated: “Only scoops, no oops.”

The post drew mixed reactions. While some praised the brand’s tongue-in-cheek take, others questioned the decision to feature the Amul Girl in a context involving alleged infidelity. One user commented, “Amul girl ahead of her time — please wait for your adulthood, dear.” Another wrote, “Didn’t expect Amul to join this Coldplay couple meme bandwagon.” A third user expressed disappointment, stating: “What’s this? Why this? Not expected from the Amul creative team.” A fourth person added simply: “Oh no, please don't!”

The incident itself has had serious professional and personal repercussions. Andy Byron, who served as CEO of data orchestration platform Astronomer, stepped down from his role after the video went viral. Kristin Cabot’s employment status with the company remains unconfirmed, and no official statement has been issued regarding her position.

Both Byron and Cabot are reportedly married to other individuals. In the aftermath of the controversy, Byron’s wife, Megan Kerrigan, is said to have removed her last name from her Facebook profile. Meanwhile, Kristin Cabot’s husband, Andrew Cabot — CEO of Privateer Rum — has not issued any public comment.
