In a significant development, India and Pakistan have agreed to a "full and immediate ceasefire" after days of escalating military tensions. The announcement was made by US President Donald Trump on May 10, 2025, following overnight negotiations mediated by the United States.
"After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE," President Trump posted on Truth Social. "Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence."
The ceasefire comes in the wakeof a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, last month, which claimed 26 lives. India responded with 'Operation Sindoor,' targeting terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, resulting in over 100 militant casualties, according to Indian officials.
The agreement aims to halt fighting across land, air, and sea, marking an end to the most intense conflict between the two nations in over two decades.
Meanwhile, the announcement sparked a wave of reactions on X. Social media users were quick to react to the important development between the two neighbouring countries.
"Ceasefire…!” cries Pakistan, after Bharat showed them what real pressure feels like….! Looks like even denial has its limits when power speaks from across the border!" a user wrote on X.

Thank you armed forces. We were tweeting, you were putting your life on the line to assert India's objectives.I think #ceasefire was inevitable as everyone understood the war only benefited China. We changed the red lines, violated Pakistan's sovereignty and a new status quoEminent Intellectual (@total_woke_) May 10, 2025
India's Foreign Minister Vikram Misri also affirmed the ceasefire, noting that top military officials from both countries had communicated earlier in the day and mutually decided to cease all military operations by 17:00 hours.
The international community has welcomed the ceasefire, with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance confirming their involvement in the negotiations. The United States, along with the UK and Gulf nations, played a pivotal role in mediating the agreement.
