Several parts of northern and central India have been experiencing extreme heat conditions, with temperatures nearing the 50 degree Celsius mark in places like Delhi and crossing that mark in certain districts of Haryana and Rajasthan.
Keeping the prevailing weather conditions in mind, an Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a few tips to save oneself from the heatwave, that included remaining hydrated and wearing light-coloured clothing, among others.
"Save from heatwaves: 1. Stay hydrated. Take water before you are thirsty. 2. Wear loose-fitting, light-colored clothing. 3. Limit outdoor activities. 4. Wear caps and sunglasses. Use sunscreens. 5. Take ORS if you feel dehydrated," IFS officer Himanshu Tyagi wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday.

At least three weather stations in Delhi recorded maximum temperatures of 49 degrees Celsius or more. Mungeshpur and Narela in Delhi clocked 49.9 degrees followed by Najafgarh at 49.8 degrees Celsius, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
This was the highest maximum temperature recorded in Delhi this season. However, Mungeshpur and Narela weather stations came up in 2022 and have records only for the last three years.
The IMD said respite from the heatwave conditions could be in sight after May 30. IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra has attributed the heatwave conditions over northwest and central India to the absence of western disturbances during the latter half of May.
