iD Fresh Food CEO Musthafa PC on Monday mourned the loss of his beloved nephew who killed himself in Kochi after being "brutally" bullied and physically assaulted in school. In an emotional note shared on Instagram, Musthafa recounted the horrors that the 15-year-old suffered because of his dark skin and called for systemic change to prevent such tragedies. Mihir Ahammed had died by suicide on January 15.
"Mihir was my nephew. He was my son’s best friend. He is no more. He was just 15. During his Kindergarten days, he lived with us in Bangalore. He was like a son to me," Musthafa wrote on Instagram. "After his death, we received some shocking screenshots/proofs from his friends. Mihir was subjected to brutal ragging, bullying, and physical assault by a gang of students at his school and on the school bus."
The evidence they gathered painted a chilling picture, the Bengaluru-based CEO said. The teenager was beaten, verbally abused, and made to endure "unimaginable humiliation" even on his last day. "He was forcibly taken to the washroom, made to lick a toilet seat, and had his head pushed into the toilet while it was flushed. After this humiliating experience, they used to call him ‘poopyhead'," Musthafa said. "He was bullied for his dark skin color. They didn’t end the cruelty even after his death. A shocking chat screenshot reveals the extent of their cruelty. They messaged 'fxxk nigga he actually died' and celebrated his death. I couldn’t stop crying seeing those chat screenshots. Can someone do it to a 15-year-old child?"
The iD Fresh Food CEO urged netizens to support their fight to seek justice for Mihir and to implement changes in the system so that "no other child suffers like Mihir did". "I am begging for justice for Mihir. His death must not go in vain. Those responsible for this barbaric act must face the full force of the law," Musthafa said.
According to a News Minute report, the alleged bullying and harassment came to light after Mihir’s mother, Rajna PM, issued a statement on January 30, claiming that he was brutally ragged by his schoolmates. She also accused his school Global Public School in Ernakulam, of attempting to intimidate students into silence to protect its reputation.
Incidentally, Mihir had changed schools after he was suspended and allegedly subjected to mental harassment by the vice-principal of the previous school.
