An X account believed to belong to an Indian woman was suspended after it publicly complained about low earnings from the platform’s Creator Revenue Sharing programme.
The controversy began when the account, reportedly run by a user named Vaishali Pandit, tagged X’s head of product, Nikita Bier and said the payout she received was too low. According to the post, she had earned only $30.50 for the period between January 31 and February 14.
X’s Creator Revenue Sharing programme allows eligible users to earn money from their posts. Creators who meet requirements such as having a large follower base, high engagement and an X Premium subscription can receive a share of advertising revenue linked to their content.

However, the complaint quickly drew attention from Bier. He later posted a video suggesting that the account had repeatedly shared the same message, “Jai Mata Di”, many times. Reacting to the payout complaint, Bier responded sarcastically, writing, “I think we overpaid.”
Shortly after his post, the account associated with Vaishali Pandit was suspended.
It remains unclear whether the account genuinely belonged to a woman named Vaishali, was operated by a bot, or was someone posing as a woman online. Many users speculated it could be a catfish account, which triggered discussion on X about whether the suspension was justified.
One user wrote, “It is insane how these people get payments at all, while others that put genuine written posts get nothing.”
Another post read, “You guys ever consider rethinking the entire payout scheme here at X? It seems to encourage the very worst of the worst to game the system by trashing up the joint.”
The debate comes as X tightens its monetisation policies. Earlier this month, Bier announced stricter action against users posting AI-generated war videos without disclosure. Accounts sharing such content without proper labels will be removed from the Creator Revenue Sharing programme for 90 days, while repeated violations could lead to a permanent ban.
