Celebrations continued long after the stands emptied at DY Patil Stadium as India’s women’s cricket team marked its maiden World Cup triumph with a heartfelt surprise -- a team anthem kept secret for four years.
In a video shared by the BCCI, batter Jemimah Rodrigues revealed that the squad had composed the song ahead of the previous World Cup but vowed to unveil it only after winning the trophy. “We decided four years back that we will only reveal the team song if we win the World Cup and tonight’s the night,” Rodrigues said.

The lyrics, translated from Hindi, echo pride and defiance: “Team India… kar de sabki hawa tight, Team India is here to fight… Our future is bright. Na lega koi panga, hum kar denge danga, rahega sabse upar… hamara Tiranga (Team India will show everyone, here to fight, future is bright. No one shall challenge us, we will beat them, and above all, waves our tricolour).
Players and coaching staff huddled around the pitch, drumming on plastic bottles and singing in unison: “Rahega sabse upar, hamara Tiranga! Ham hai Team India (The tricolour will fly high! We are Team India)!"
The song was received warmly by social media users.
"Incredible! The energy, the passion, and the sheer joy in this team song capturing the essence of this historic win," commented on X user, while another said, "That’s pretty good! A wonderful movie can be made on their journey to victory with this song in it." A third user suggested, "Now we need AR Rahman to turn it into a proper team song."
