Finding a house in Bengaluru is often described as a test of patience. In a city where demand moves faster than listings, renters are frequently left struggling to secure homes within their budget. What happens when even the usual search methods stop working?
That question seems to have pushed one tenant to try something unusual online.
A Bengaluru resident posted on Reddit, drawing attention for offering a financial reward to anyone who could help them secure a 3BHK flat in the city. The post quickly gained traction and triggered discussion on the challenges of renting in high-demand neighbourhoods.
The user explained the situation clearly, along with an unconventional incentive to speed up the search process. The post was shared on r/bangalorerentals with title, “Find me a 3bhk I’ll pay you half month rent! Can be literally anyone.”
The person explained, “Yup, you heard that right. Whoever you are, if you know someone who has a good 2.5/3bhk out for rent and if I take that property up, I’m going to pay you half month rent. I’m super frustrated looking for good houses. So here it is! Giving this a shot.”
The user specified that they are looking for a 2.5BHK or 3BHK in areas such as Koramangala, HSR Layout, Kudlu Gate, and Ulsoor, with a maximum budget of Rs 45,000. They also mentioned a planned move-in date of April 1.
The user further clarified how the reward would work, including direct coordination with anyone who helps identify a suitable property. The redditor explained, “And yes, like I said, I’m gonna pay you half month's rent. We can meet face to face. If you want you can come with me to see the property, if I close, you get half month rent.”
After the post gained visibility, Reddit users joined the conversation with mixed reactions. Some attempted to offer practical leads, while others pointed out the growing mismatch between rental expectations and market reality in Bengaluru.
One user highlighted how rental rates in prime areas have already moved beyond the budget mentioned, explaining why the search is proving difficult. The user commented, “45 to 48K for 3 BHK in prime location. thats why you are not getting it! I am 10to 15kms away from your preferred locations and paying 60K for 3BHK.”
Another user suggested that while the demand is understandable, the current budget may limit options in central apartment complexes, and alternative housing types might be more realistic. The user said, “3bhk in 50k is a difficult proposition but it's not like you won't find it, there are 2bhk for 35k I have seen in my own building. Try in independent house instead of big apartment community you will have better luck.”

A further comment questioned the availability of such properties in the preferred areas, pointing to wider concerns about affordability in the locality. The user said, “A 3bhk in the areas you mentioned for less than 50k per month?! If you do manage to find something good in that price range, do tell. I'm curious to know if these exist. Been considering moving to a 3bhk myself in the same areas but have yet to come across anything decent for less than 80-90k.”
