30 flights, including four international, were diverted to neighbouring cities from Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport due to bad weather on March 18, sources told Moneycontrol.

“Thirty flights were diverted to Chennai, Coimbatore and Hyderabad due to adverse weather conditions,” a source said. Of the four international flights, three were passenger services and one was a cargo flight.

At Terminal 1, rainwater seeped through ceilings and drainage pipes. Pictures showed water pouring from the roof following heavy rain.

Rain accompanied by brief hailstorms lashed parts of Karnataka, including north Bengaluru, on March 18 , bringing relief from the heat but disrupting normal life, as light showers and short spells of hail across the city triggered severe traffic congestion.

According to the India Meteorological Department, as of 8.30am on March 19, the airport station recorded 64.8mm of rainfall and Bengaluru city 7mm.

“Heavy rains exposed lapses at Kempegowda International Airport as water leaked from ceilings and drainage pipes, turning areas into a mini waterfall. Passengers faced inconvenience, raising serious questions on infrastructure and maintenance,” Ramesh Kumar Reddy posted on X.

This is not the first instance of leakage being reported at the airport’s terminals. However, Bengaluru International Airport Limited officials said the issue was addressed promptly.
