Errol Musk, the South African businessman and father of the world's richest person, Elon Musk, is surprised his son hasn't been to India yet. Speaking to NDTV on Monday, Musk Sr. said Elon is making a big mistake by not visiting the fast-growing country.
"I am quite surprised he has not been to India. If he does not, he is making a big mistake...," the 79-year-old said.
Elon Musk, who runs electric car maker Tesla, social media platform X, and space company SpaceX, had planned a trip to India last April. But he put it off, saying he had "pressing issues" at Tesla. For his father, this delay seems like a missed chance.
When the Tesla CEO does finally visit, he's expected to talk about investments. His companies, Tesla and Starlink (SpaceX's internet service by satellite), are both set to launch in India. But, Musk's relationship with India's government regulators hasn't been easy. His social media company, X, has had disagreements with the government about what content is allowed. This makes a personal visit even more important, in his father's view.
Errol Musk said he has no doubt that there will be a Tesla manufacturing plant in India and that his son and Prime Minister Narendra Modi would work something out that is beneficial to both.

"And Elon has to look at the interests of Tesla as a company. So, between them, they will work something out that is to the best advantage of Tesla as well as India. However, I'm saying this as a private individual because Tesla is a public company," the 79-year-old businessman told news agency ANI. "I have no doubt that there will be a Tesla manufacturing plant in India. There has to be (a Tesla plant in India). India is one of the most important places in the world."
When asked for advice for his busy son, senior Musk chuckled and suggested, "Get some rest... Try and take a break."
