'Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story' lands on Netflix from May 4.

Whether it is an Arnold Schwarzenegger film, a K-drama love story or a satire about a jackfruit being stolen, OTT has an interesting line up of stories and real-life documentaries once again this month. May will also see Sonakshi Sinha’s OTT debut and Homi Adajania’s first web-series. There is a fine mix of binge-worthy shows, much-anticipated films, and most-talked about debuts, all set to release this month. Check out our list:

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, Netflix,  May 4

This Bridgerton love story is a prequel spin-off of the series Bridgerton and is about Queen Charlotte’s marriage to King George of England.

Corona Papers, Disney+, May 5

Directed by Priyadarshan this action thriller starring Shane Nigam, Shine Tom Chacko, Sidhique, and Jean Lal is about how the police pursue the mastermind robber who ran off with a fortune during the pandemic.

August 16 1947, Amazon Prime Video, May 5

AR Murugadoss’ Tamil period drama is a story of the lives of illiterate villagers who are so isolated from the rest of the country that they do not come to know of India’s independence.

Meter, Netflix, May 5

This Telugu action comedy features Kiran Abbavaram, Athulyaa Ravi and is the story of a man who is the son of a police officer and finally gets to become one but then faces many problems.

Fireflies: Parth aur Jugnu, Zee5, May 5

This fantasy drama follows the story of a boy with supernatural powers who befriends another boy and together they work to save a mysterious and magical tree deep inside the forest.

Jhilli, Hoichoi, May 5

This drama is about a man who stays at a dump yard and when he leaves him behind in the debris he decides to experience the world outside.

Operation Fortune: Ruse De Guerre, Lionsgate Play, May 5

There’s a lot of action, and comedy in this Jason Statham starrer with Aubrey Plaza, Josh Hartnett, Cary Elwes, Bugzy Malone and Hugh Grant as super agent Orsen Fortune gets ready for an important and dangerous mission.

Shabash Feluda, Zee5, May 5

This film is about Feluda and Topshe, two famous characters created by Satyajit Ray and how they investigate an unexpected death in Gangtok.

Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar, Netflix, May 5

Starring Dimple Kapadia, Ranbir Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor and Anubhav Singh Bassi, this one is a modern-age love story of a couple who have silly notions about love.

Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo, Disney+ Hotstar, May 5

Homi Adajania’s debut web-series has a full-on, hardcore action-packed trailer with the title song of Kyuki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi as the background music. The original name of the series was Saas Bahu Aur Cocaine, but it was changed to the current one later.

Queen Cleopatra, Netflix, May 10

Jada Pinkett Smith, Executive Producer, has brought a new docu-series exploring lives of iconic African Queens and this season features the fascinating story of Cleopatra.

The Muppets Mayhem, Disney Plus, May 10

This 10 episode series starring Lilly Singh, is about the old Muppets band called The Electric Mayhem Band, as they take on the music world.

Taj: Reign of Revenge, Zee 5, May 12

The first part of this period drama came to an end on an exciting note and the second season takes up right after and continues the tale of the Mughal empire, the emperor Akbar and his family.

Vikram Vedha, Jio Cinema, May 12

Vikram, a cop, is after the criminal Vedha who surrenders willingly. Vedha then tells Vikram three different tales. These stories alter Vikram’s views of good and evil. The action-thriller is based on the ancient folktale Betaal Pachisi.

Crater, Disney Plus, May 12

This adventure, sci-fi drama, is about Caleb Channing who wants to fulfil his father's last wish and so, before being relocated to another planet, he and his four friends go out to explore a crater.

The Mother, Netflix, May 12

Starring Jennifer Lopez, Omari Hardwick, Lucy Paez, Joseph Fiennes and Gael García Bernal in the lead roles, this story is about a mother and daughter’s life. It is about an assassin who comes back to save the daughter she was forced to abandon when running from violent attackers.

The Great Season 3, Hulu, May 12

Created by Tony McNamara, this historical dramady, very loosely based on facts, has 10 episodes this season and is an ironic chronicle of the longest-reigning female ruler in Russian history.

Black Night, Netflix, May 12

Based on Lee Yun-kyun’s webtoon, this is a sci-fi drama about a dystopian future where people have died due to air pollution and survivors depend on special delivery drivers who get oxygen and supplies for survival.

Newsense Season 1, Aha, May 12

This one is about the media industry and is a hard-hitting story of challenges faced by journalists. The series, written by a journalist, features Navdeep and Bindhu Madhavi in the lead roles.

Dahaad, Amazon Prime Video, May 12

Created by Reema Kagti and Zoya Akhtar, this crime thriller series is Sonakshi Sinha’s OTT debut, where Sona plays a cop who investigates a string of deaths of women.

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, Disney+, May 17

This Marvel movie has a stellar cast and follows Ant Man and the Wasp while they accidentally go into other universes and the quantum realm.

Xo, Kitty,  Netflix, May 18

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before was a hit series and Kitty, the little sister from that show is now the protagonist in the new romance series Xo, Kitty. She moves to Korea to reunite with her long-distance boyfriend but is shocked to see him with another girl and has to deal with this and more.

Modern Love: Chennai, Amazon Prime Video, May 18

The first season of this six-episode collection of unconventional love stories in Tamil, is touted to make you catch a glimpse of the spirit of Chennai city, its history and culture.

Kathal — A Jackfruit Mystery, Netflix, May 19

Touted to be based on a true story, the plot of this satirical comedy starring Sanya Malhotra, Anant Joshi and Vijay Raaz, is decidedly bizarre as police are assigned to look for two stolen jackfruits.

Dead Pixels, Disney+ Hotstar, May 19

When one becomes obsessed with the online world things in the real-world change. This web series is an adaptation of the British sitcom by the same name. Directed by Aditya Mandala, it stars Niharika Konidela.

Kadina Kadoramee Andakadaham, SonyLIV, May 19

This Malayalam film set in a coastal village, is about a man whose family makes him go to the Gulf but he isn’t ready. The lockdown during the pandemic makes him reconsider his earlier decisions.

Created by Aitor Gabilondo starring Arón Piper, this psychological thriller series is about Sergio who hasn’t spoken since he killed his parents when he was a minor and now after six years, a psychologist aims to find out what happened.

Selling Sunset Season 6, Netflix, May 19

This real estate reality show is into its sixth season and has dropped all 11 episodes at once. There are teary showdowns and heated arguments, rivalries as veterans turn up the pressure, make personnel shifts and stakes run high.

Yeh Meri Family Season 2, Amazon miniTV, May 19

The first season of this show (2018) was appreciated for its extremely relatable narrative. This multigenerational family drama set in the ’90s follows the story of a typical middle-class family and shows its quirks as they lead a simple life.

City Of Dreams Season 3, Disney+ Hotstar, May 26

This series by Nagesh Kukunoor which began in 2019 is now into its third season. Starring Priya Bapat, Atul Kulkarni, Sachin Pilgaonkar, Eijaz Khan, Siddharth Chandekar, Adinath Kothare and others, this show is a high-octane political thriller drama.

The Kardashians Season 3, Hulu and Disney+ Hotstar, May 27

This third season of the much-talked about show will be all the recent drama in the family right from Kim’s breakup with Pete Davidson, to the fallout between Kim -Kourtney.
