The United States Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti, who gained popularity among the masses for embracing the Indian culture during his visit to the country a few months ago, recently described the current status in India-US ties as 'it's complicated'. They're dating."
"It’s like our Facebook status for a long time, between US and India, was ‘It’s complicated’. Now, when you log on, it’s like, “They’re dating’," the 52-year-old said at the Carnegie’s Global Tech Summit 2023.
Garcetti further said, in jest, that there was a strong desire in the hearts of both countries and things were "personal". "In time we will realise that maybe we have moved in together and we might not like each other's habits, like why do you leave the towel on the floor... we are figuring out how and where this goes. there is a strong desire in our hearts, it is personal," he said.
He also quashed all talks about China being a key factor behind the growth in the India-US ties. "When I think about the US-India relationship, a lot of people overstate that China is the reason we are together. I don't believe that at all. I think it's one of the most important, pressing things we talk to and we rely on," he added.
During his visit to India in October, Garcetti had travelled in the Delhi Metro and participated in the Durga Puja celebrations that were ongoing in the national capital at the time.
