An application has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking its direction to CBI Director Ranjit Sinha to recuse himself from investigation and prosecution in 2G case, alleging that he is trying to protect some influential accused in the scam.The application, filed by an NGO, Centre for Public Interest Litigation, on whose plea the apex court is monitoring the probe in 2G scam, alleged that the "Director has made serious attempts to derail the investigation and prosecution being carried out by the CBI"."This application seeks a direction to the CBI Director Ranjit Sinha not to interfere in the 2G spectrum allocation case investigations and prosecutions being carried out by the CBI and to recuse from the case," it said.The NGO submitted that the Director had opined that no case is made out in Aircel-Maxis deal despite investigation officers and Director of Prosecution saying that a charge sheet must be filed."To prevent even the charge sheet from being filed in a case like this, amounts to an abuse of authority on his part, in order to benefit a few private parties, which is an offence under the PC Act," it said.
