Jaya plans scrutiny of illegal fibre cables' network

In the wake of reports that a fibre cable network has been laid from the residence of Dayanidhi Maran to Sun TV office in Chennai, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today said she would get the matter "thoroughly examined" and take necessary action.

Speaking to reporters, the AIADMK chief said she has seen a report that fibre cables have been laid in an "unauthorised manner" from Maran's house to the office of the family-owned Sun TV network.

"I came to know from media reports that optic fibre cables have been laid in an unauthorised manner from the house of Dayanidhi Maran to Sun TV office in Chennai." she stated, adding "Today, I am busy with the Planning Commission meeting. As soon as I return to Chennai, I will get this matter thoroughly examined and take necessary action," she said.

The report said the cable network was laid when Maran was the Telecom Minister from 2004 to 2007. Maran is in the centre of a controversy over allegations of a quid quo pro in allotting 2G spectrum to Aircel during his tenure as Telecom Minister.
