2G case: Balwa seeks permission to attend Etisalat DB's GBM

A Delhi court on Wednesday asked CBI to respond to a plea of Swan Telecom promoter Shahid Usman Balwa, an accused in the 2G spectrum scam, seeking permission to attend general body meeting of Etisalat DB, a joint venture firm between UAE-based Etisalat and his DB Realty group.

    A Delhi court on Wednesday asked CBI to respond to a plea of Swan Telecom promoter Shahid Usman Balwa, an accused in the 2G spectrum scam, seeking permission to attend general body meeting of Etisalat DB, a joint venture firm between UAE-based Etisalat and his DB Realty group.


    Special CBI Judge OP Saini took Balwa's application on record and directed the CBI to file its response by tomorrow on his plea to attend the extra-ordinary general meeting of Etisalat DB on June 15 in Mumbai.


    His lawyer submitted that Balwa, who is a shareholder of Etisalat DB will attend the meeting in the judicial custody and will bear all expenses including the travel expenses.


    Balwa has been chargesheeted for conspiring with government officials and former telecom minister A Raja in the grant of 2G licences as well as giving bribe to DMK-run Kalaignar TV.


    He also moved another application seeking direction to Tihar Jail authorities to allow him to undergo MRI scan.


    The court asked the Jail Superintendent to consider Balwa's plea positively as per the report of doctors of DDU hospital.
