At a time when recruitment processes are getting automated by AI (artificial intelligence), it is important to know how these tools work so that job seekers can prepare themselves accordingly for AI-powered interviews.

Aaron Wang, the CEO and co-founder of California-based AI recruitment platform Apriora, shared with CNBC Make It three tips that can ensure professionals ace these interviews. Wang's company conducts up to 1,000 AI-powered interviews every day for companies looking to hire for positions ranging from senior software engineers to electricians. For this, they are helped by their AI recruiting agent, Alex, which has been trained on “the entirety of the internet".

1.) Ensure a strong internet connection

Unlike human recruiters who don't have a lot of time to analyse each resume, AI recruiters have the bandwidth to read resumes and conduct significantly more interviews at any given time. Hence, according to Wang, all you really need is a strong internet connection and the ability to talk about your skills and experience.

2.) Treat it as any other interview

Speaking to an AI recruiter like Alex should be a “very fluid conversation,” Wang told CNBC Make It. You can take as much time as you need to answer questions and get asked appropriate follow-up questions.

“It’s just back and forth. She won’t interrupt you,” he added.

3.) Expect a shorter interview process

While in a traditional interview process for a non-managerial position, about three to five rounds of interviews are held, those conducted by AI assistants would take a considerably shorter amount of time, Wang said. “If you have an AI that has the knowledge of an engineer, you can do that recruiter phone screen and that engineering technical round in one call,” he said.
