Car falls off under-construction UP flyover after following Google Maps. Three rescued

A serious mishap occurred in Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj district on Sunday, when a car veered off an under-construction flyover after its driver followed directions provided by Google Maps. The incident took place on the Gorakhpur–Sonauli highway near the Farenda police station area. Remarkably, all three occupants of the vehicle were rescued without major injuries.

According to reports, the black car, bearing a Lucknow registration plate, was en route from Gorakhpur to the Sonauli border. The passengers were relying entirely on Google Maps for navigation. While following the route suggested by the app, the vehicle inadvertently accessed an incomplete section of a flyover still under construction.

Sources stated that while one part of the flyover had been completed, the other side was still under development. The navigation app allegedly directed the driver onto this unfinished portion. As the car advanced, it reached a point where the construction abruptly ended. The driver, unable to detect the drop in time, lost control of the vehicle.

The car toppled forward but did not plunge entirely from the structure. It became precariously stuck in a slanted position, suspended at the edge of the flyover. A mound of construction mud located just below the flyover is believed to have prevented the car from falling completely, likely saving the lives of the occupants.

Upon receiving the alert, officers from the Farenda police station quickly arrived at the scene and successfully extracted all three individuals from the vehicle. The identities of the passengers have not yet been disclosed.

Footage of the incident, showing the car trapped at an angle on the elevated structure, circulated widely on social media, drawing attention to the dangers of relying solely on digital navigation tools in areas with ongoing infrastructure development.
