Tamil Nadu Governor Ravindra Narayana Ravi astonished a gathering of over 10,000 students on Saturday morning by completing 51 push-ups during an International Yoga Day event held at the Velammal Educational Institution in Madurai.

The 73-year-old Governor, known for his disciplined lifestyle, participated in the mass yoga session with unflagging energy, performing all yoga asanas alongside students and trainers. However, it was his impromptu push-up demonstration that truly stole the show. Discarding his formal attire in favour of a tracksuit and vest, Ravi embraced the spirit of the event, completing the push-ups with effortless grace and precision.

The crowd, largely comprising students, teachers and spectators, erupted in applause as the Governor finished the push-ups consecutively without pause.

A video capturing the moment surfaced on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), quickly going viral and earning admiration from users across the country. The Governor’s fitness, posture and stamina drew widespread praise.

Raj Bhavan Tamil Nadu also shared highlights from the event on its official X handle, posting:
“Governor Ravi, along with over 10,000 students participated in the 11th #InternationalDayofYoga at the Velammal IB School Ground, Madurai, demonstrating key yoga practices and sharing deeper insights with them. Ten years ago, Yoga, India’s profound gift to humanity, codified by the great sage Patanjali who was born on the sacred soil of Tamil Nadu, was introduced to the global stage. Since then, it has grown into a worldwide movement, inspiring holistic well-being and a global awakening toward conscious, healthy living. He urged the youth to embrace yoga as a lifelong companion on their journey toward personal growth and excellence.”

Governor Ravi also took time to share tips with the young participants on maintaining proper form and posture while doing push-ups. Drawing on his Indian Police Service (IPS) background, he executed each yoga movement, underscoring the lifelong benefits of yoga and regular physical activity.

The event, hosted by the Velammal Educational Trust, was part of the nationwide celebrations marking the 11th International Yoga Day on June 21. It witnessed a massive turnout of students and citizens committed to promoting the values of wellness, fitness and mindfulness through yoga.

Governor Ravi’s performance served as an inspiration to all present, exemplifying the adage that "age is just a number." His message to the youth was clear: Yoga is not just a physical discipline but a holistic practice that nurtures mental clarity, emotional balance and lifelong vitality.
