Are Elon Musk and Donald Trump over? X posts reveal cracks, insults amid deepening divide

The once-amicable relationship between Elon Musk and President Donald Trump has devolved into a public feud, marked by mutual accusations, policy disagreements, and a flurry of social media exchanges.

The rift began when Musk criticised Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill Act," labelling it a "disgusting abomination" due to its significant cuts to healthcare and electric vehicle subsidies, and its addition of $3.8 trillion to the national deficit. Trump responded by accusing Musk of self-interest, suggesting his opposition was due to the loss of subsidies benefiting Tesla. He also threatened to cancel federal contracts with Musk's companies.

In retaliation, Musk announced that SpaceX would begin decommissioning its Dragon spacecraft, which NASA relies on to ferry astronauts to and from the International Space Station (ISS). This move could have disrupted the ISS program, which involves dozens of countries under an international agreement signed over two decades ago. However, after public backlash and a suggestion from an X user to "take a step back," Musk reversed his decision, stating, "Good advice. Ok, we won't decommission Dragon," and reaffirmed his commitment to "Team America."

The feud escalated further when Musk implied that Trump's name appears in sealed documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, though without providing evidence. He also suggested forming a new centrist political party, indicating a potential shift in his political affiliations.

The public fallout has been met with mixed reactions. Trump supporters have called for a boycott of Tesla and X, while others have hailed Musk’s stance as courageous. The internet has also responded with a wave of memes, comparing the feud to pop culture rivalries like "Drake vs Kendrick" and scenes from "Mean Girls," highlighting the dramatic nature of the split
