Thursday was an emotional day in the life of 26-year-old Mumbai batter Sarfaraz Khan, who made his Test debut for India after several consistent seasons in first-class cricket.
One man, who has been with Khan from the first day and seen him go through multiple ups-and-downs has been his father Naushad Khan, who has coached Khan and kept the faith with him to fulfill the dream of representing India at the highest level.
Acknowledging Naushad's role in Khan playing for India, Anand Mahindra on Friday took to X (formerly Twitter) and said that he was offering a Thar to the cricketer's father.
“Himmat nahin chodna, bas!”Hard work. Courage. Patience. What better qualities than those for a father to inspire in a child? For being an inspirational parent, it would be my privilege & honour if Naushad Khan would accept the gift of a Thar. pic.twitter.com/fnWkoJD6Dp — anand mahindra (@anandmahindra) February 16, 2024
After receiving his Test cap from former India captain Anil Kumble on Thursday, Khan was caught on camera running to his father to show the cap, who embraced his son and could not hold back his emotions.
Khan made 62 runs in his debut Test innings on Thursday before he was run out at the non-striker's end, following a mix-up with Ravindra Jadeja. At the post-day press conference, the batter said that miscommunication between batters was a part of the game.
"It is a part of the game. Miscommunication happens in cricket. Sometimes run-out happens, sometimes you get the runs," Khan said on Thursday. India were eventually bowled for 445 runs in their first innings on Friday.
