On 2 February 2012, the Supreme Court of India issued its judgment on one of the important cases on this matter. It declared that all 122 licenses issued in 2008 were illegal and ordered them quashed within four months. In those four months, the TRAI has been asked to make fresh recommendations as to the grant of licence and allocation of spectrum and the Central Government to consider these recommendations and issue fresh licenses.
