Google will soon introduce biometric verification to purchase apps or other content from its Google Play Store. The company has started to email Android users about this upcoming Play Store change to encourage the use of purchase verification via biometric authentication, according to a report by 9to5Google. This change is aimed at bolstering security and user experience.
Google Play Store fingerprint or face verification: DetailsMany users are receiving new emails from Google, with the title “Your Google Play purchase verification settings”. Further, the email informed, “in the coming weeks, there will be a change in how you confirm your setting when you choose biometric verification.”
It has also asked its users to prioritise security while stating the importance of enabling purchase verification for every transaction. To facilitate this, the Play Store will offer three verification options: Always, Every 30 minutes, or Never, as per the report.
This flexibility ensures that you can customise the security settings according to your preferences and usage patterns. Moreover, Google has said, “use caution in storing biometrics of children or others on your device, as those could be used for purchase verification.”
Currently, Google’s biometric verification in the Play Store involves you going to Play Store settings, and toggling the Biometric verification option. The most annoying aspect about this process was that every time after this process you had to enter your Google account password. However, Google will now eliminate hassle with this forthcoming update.
Users will be able to use fingerprint or face data stored on their device to confirm purchases made on the Play Store. This will be also handy for users, who frequently change their Android devices, and don’t want to enter their passwords for purchase verification every time.
