Tejas Express, the luxury train service by the Indian Railways has set an example in terms of cleanliness. The train which started service three months back has had complaints only from two passengers regarding cleanliness issues.
As per a report in The Asian Age, only two passengers have yet asked the railways to clean up around their seats via Clean My Coach (CMC) facility. The CMC facility is available to passengers via text messages in 55 trains run on the Central Railways.
A railway official gave credit for this to the care and monitoring rendered on the train by the Railway board. “Tejas has become the symbol of what the railways have been trying to accomplish in the past few years, that is, to provide the passengers with the feel of luxury travel without burning a hole in their pocket,” he said.
Launched on 22nd May, the Tejas Express runs between Mumbai and Goa. Many see the semi luxury train as an attempt by the Railways to tackle the rising competition presented by the domestic aviation industry. The
The rise of low-cost budget airlines, which are almost five times faster than trains has seriously dented the passenger base of the Indian Railways.
The introduction of semi-luxury superfast trains like Tejas is being seen as an answer to this.
