RIM has just launched yet another handset into the Indian market, enhancing their Torch range of devices. Enter the BlackBerry Torch 9860 smartphone. Unlike the Torch 9810 that was also recently launched, this new device has gone the way of the Storm i.e. it’s a totally touchscreen mobile.

The 9860 will be running on a 1.2GHz processor with BlackBerry’s Liquid Graphics technology and will feature BlackBerry 7 operating system. The new OS will of course carry the next generation BlackBerry Browser (with optimized HTML5 performance) that showcases an improved performance thanks to the more advanced WebKit browser engine. This version will also be provisioned for voice-activated searches, the ability to manage personal content separately from corporate content, as well as additional personal and productivity apps out of the box. The Torch 9860 will also come equipped with an optical trackpad, which seems quite redundant on a large touchscreen handset, but it’s there for those who want it. Here’s a quick look at the 9860’s specs -

  • 3.7-inch Transmissive touchscreen with a 480 x 800 pixel resolution (253 ppi)
  • 3G, EDGE, BIS, BES, Wi-Fi, hotspot creation
  • Bluetooth with A2DP, USB 2.0 (micro)
  • GPS with aGPS
  • 5MP AF camera with Led flash with 720p video recording, continuous auto focus and face detection and Geotagging
  • 4GB of internal storage plus 32GB support for microSD cards

The all new BlackBerry Torch 9860 bears a price tag of Rs. 28,490, which makes it a rather well-priced handset given the specs.
