There have been many rumours in the past that Microsoft and Amazon could both be launching their own smartphones. In what may come as a backing to these rumours, a report by Digitimes claims that Foxconn International Holding (FIH), a subsidiary of Foxconn Electronics, has landed the order to manufacture handsets for Microsoft and Amazon. The handsets from these brands will be launched in mid-2013There have been a number of rumours in the past claiming that Microsoft would be launching the Surface smartphone. However, there had been no concrete proof of the same. The move by Microsoft to launch an own-branded smartphone would be great for Microsoft as it won't need a third party manufacturer to run its home-grown OS, Windows Phone 8. In the recent past, Microsoft has shown that it can successfully launch hardware too, as it has recently launched the Surface RT tablet.
