The cash-for-vote row created a political storm on the eve of the Maharashtra Assembly elections as the Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA) chief Hitendra Thakur accused Tawde of distributing cash in an attempt to woo voters
The Election Commission filed an FIR against Maharashtra's BJP general secretary Vinod Tawde after he was accused of distributing cash for votes in Palghar district by the Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA). This comes just one day ahead of the Assembly elections in the state. The party accused Tawde of carrying Rs 5 crore in his bag. In a video, BVA workers can be seen storming into the Vivanta Hotel in Nalasopara during a meeting between the BJP leader and the BJP's candidate from Nalasopara Rajan Naik.
Senior BJP leader Vinod Tawde said Shinde's claim may have come after he sensed the little chances he had of winning from Solapur in the April-May Lok Sabha polls.
Use of digital technology can considerably reduce paperwork in state government departments and has immense potential to create jobs and reduce corruption.
Even as the controversy over Pankaja Munde's alleged Rs 206 crore scam refuses to die down, another Maharashtra minister Vinod Tawde is in the line of fire for alleged irregularities in government contracts worth Rs 191 crore.
The government would focus on increasing number of students in rural areas and make necessary arrangements to ensure that maximum parents enroll their children in schools.
"We are in the process of enacting a law to make it mandatory for multiplexes to screen Marathi films during prime time," Culture Minister Vinod Tawde said in his reply to a debate on preservation of historical forts, Marathi language and culture.
State Textile Minister Chandrakant Patil told the Legislative Assembly that the new textile policy would address issues of high electricity tariff.
A senior Sena leader said the final outcome can be expected either by tonight, when Sena emissaries are meeting Fadnavis at his official residence 'Varsha' here, or tomorrow.
Fadnavis becomes the first BJP chief minister in the state.
Polling began at 7 am and will conclude at 6 pm. Counting of votes will be held on October 19, poll officials said. The elections will elect members of the 13th Assembly in the state.
