Many eyebrows were raised, and the party workers were surprised over a statement posted on the website proclaiming to merge MNM with the Congress on January 30.
The changes come in the wake of a spate of resignations, including then vice president R Mahendran, after the elections where the party, along with its allies, could not return even a single legislator.
MNM is contesting the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections 2021 on 154 of 234 assembly seats in Tamil Nadu. The remaining 80 seats have been left for MNM’s alliance partners -- All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi (AISMK) and Indhiya Jananayaga Katchi.
Arunachalam had worked closely with Kamal Haasan even before People's Justice Center was started in 2018 and the sudden move comes as a major setback as the party is bracing itself to fight the upcoming TN Assembly elections 2021.
The actor-politician will embark on his first phase of campaign between December 13-16, MNM Vice President, Dr R Mahendran said in a release here.
BJP leader and Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan said Haasan had met leaders of a party that had been "rejected by people".
Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan also launched the party flag in a event attended by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
