The train accident in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh occurred as the Bangalore-bound Hampi Express jumped the signal at Penukonda station, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Tuesday.
It was an unbearable and gory sight to see fellow passengers burning and screaming for help as they stood helpless due to the searing heat, said shocked passengers of the mishap-hit Hampi Express.
The death toll in the train accident in Andhra Pradesh rose to 19 and over 35 people were injured, Railway Minister Mukul Roy said.
The Hampi Express collided with a goods train near Penneconda in Andhra Pradesh early on Tuesday morning on its way from Hubli to Bangalore. Eight people were dead and 25 were injured in the collision, according to a railway spokesperson.
