Adani Defence and Swedish company, SAAB have partnered to make the Gripen fighter plane in India. In an exclusive conversation with CNBC-TV18's Rituparna Bhuyan, SAAB India Chairman said that 51 percent equity is a must in defence for foreign companies to transfer their technology to Indian partners. The global CEO of SAAB Hakan Buskhe who is in India currently said, we will be able to offer the best technology to India and are keen on supplying fighter jets to IAF.
There are primarily three manufacturers of these single-engine fighter jets which could be in the race – Lockheed Martin which manufacture the F-16‘s, Boeing which makes Super Hornets and Swedish Saab that manufactures Gripen.
After losing out to France's Rafale, Swedish aerospace and defence giant 'Saab' is hoping to sell its Grippen fighter jets to the Indian Air Force. Speaking to CNBC-TV18, Saab India head, Jan Wilderstrom, said that Saab is not just offering the fighter jets but also the transfer of Gripen's technology and assembly line to India.
Foreign fighter jet makers see opportunity in India after the scaled back French deal.
