Indian Railways Gatimaan runs between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Jhansi while the Vande Bharat Express connects New Delhi with Katra.
"While it would be an added advantage for international and domestic tourists, it would boost the economic viability of the train," Divisional Commercial Manager (Agra) and PRO Sanchit Tyagi said.
On the new stretch, the train will run at a speed of 130 kmph and not at its original speed.
The Railways will go for global shopping to acquire high speed locomotives with a Rs 500 crore project to run trains at 200 km per hour on Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Kolkata routes.
Russian Railways is helping Indian Railways increase the speed of its passenger trains up to 200 km per hour.
The train successfully completed its trial run yesterday by clocking 180 km/hr due to its light and advanced technology, Divisional Railway Manager, Agra, Prabhash Kumar said.
According to Arun Arora, divisional railways manager (DRM), Delhi division of Northern Railway, the Gatiman‘s coaches have been built at Kapurthala Railway Coach Factory in the Punjab and bio-toilets developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The cost of train is around Rs 50 crore.
The train will run at a speed of 160 km per hour, covering the 184 kilometre distance between Delhi and Agra in 105-110 minutes. Moreover, speed is not the only highlight of Gatimaan Express which is India's first semi-high speed train.
