The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has released its list of the world’s most expensive cities to live in 2022. New York tops the rankings for the first time, tying with frequent leader Singapore. Take a look at the other cities on the list.
The EIU’s Worldwide Cost of Living is a biannual survey that compares more than 400 individual prices across 138 products and services in more than 130 cities worldwide. The price of living was impacted by five main trends -- currency fluctuations, supply chain problems such as shortages of certain goods including pasta and toilet roll, action taken by governments such as price controls, consumers' more precautionary approach over fears their income could be hit, and changes in lifestyle.
RBI is unlikely to cut rates before April 2017, according to the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), which has said outgoing Governor Raghuram Rajan has tamed inflation by refusing to bow to the government's desire for lower rates.
EIU, which is the research-arm of the London-based publication, The Economist, credited strengthening of the economy to lower oil prices, saying this has eased structural problems associated with high inflation.
In its 2014 Worldwide Cost of Living Survey, the EIU said the world`s ten most expensive cities to live in are: Singapore, Paris, Oslo, Zurich, Sydney, Caracas, Geneva, Melbourne, Tokyo and Copenhagen, respectively.
