The two records were set in the holy city with over 25 lakh earthen lamps (diyas) lit together and 1,121 'vedacharyas' (teachers of religious texts) performing aarti simultaneously.
The Deepotsav festival is organised by the state government in which lakhs of diyas are lit on the banks of the Saryu River on the occasion of Diwali.
Around 6.30 pm, the prime minister will witness an "aarti" on the banks of the River Saryu, which will be followed by launch of the Deepotsav celebrations, the statement said.
Ayodhya Divisional Commissioner Navdeep Rinwa said over 15 lakh earthen lamps will be lit by more than 22,000 volunteers at Ram ki Paidi near the Saryu bank. The rest will be placed at important intersections and spots, officials said.
A stunning lights and laser show was organised in Ayodhya as part of Deepotsav celebrations ahead of Diwali.
Diwali 2022: According to the district administration, lamps will burn for more than 30 minutes this year, a time period longer than what was observed in the last five years.
