Baba Siddique resigned from Congress on Friday 8 with immediate effect

Former Maharashtra Minister Baba Siddique resigned from Congress on February 8 with immediate effect. The development was confirmed by him on his X (formerly Twitter account).

Confirming the same, he said, "I joined the Indian National Congress party as a young teenager and it has been a significant journey lasting 48 years. Today I resign from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress Party with immediate effect."

He further added, "There’s a lot I would have liked to express but as they say some things are better left unsaid. I thank everyone who has been a part of this journey."

According to reports, Siddique may join the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on February 10. Rumours about his exit from the party started few days back after Siddique and his son Zeeshan reportedly met Pawar on February 1.

Siddique was the former minister of state for food and civil supplies. Previously, he served as the chairman of the Mumbai division of Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority.
