A massive fire broke out on Sunday morning in a boys’ hostel building injuring eight students here, police have said. The incident took place at around 6.15 am in Landmark City under Kunhari police station, Superintendent of Police Kota city Amrita Duhan is quoted as saying by media reports. Israel’s defense minister said early Sunday that the country's confrontation with Iran “is not over yet,” hours after the latter launched an unprecedented air attack in what is a new chapter in the two nations’ long-running shadow war by firing hundreds of drones and missiles at Israel, the NYT reported. A majority of the missiles and drones were intercepted, and those that weren't caused only minor damage, Israeli military officials said on Sunday morning. The United States said it had shot down dozens of the drones and missiles.

Bitcoin struggled for traction after sinking the most in more than a year, part of a wider tumble in cryptocurrency markets as escalating geopolitical tension in the Middle East spurred risk aversion.

The UN chief urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint to avoid any action that could lead to major military confrontations on multiple fronts in the Middle East. "I strongly condemn the serious escalation represented by the large-scale attack launched on Israel by the Islamic Republic of Iran this evening. I call for an immediate cessation of these hostilities," Guterres said in a statement on Saturday.

He said he is deeply alarmed about the very real danger of a devastating region-wide escalation. "I have repeatedly stressed that neither the region nor the world can afford another war," he added.The Permanent Mission of Iran to the UN informed the UN Security Council in a letter that Iran carried out a series of military strikes on Israeli military objectives in the late hours of April 13.

US President Joe Biden has condemned Iran’s unprecedented air assault on Israel and convened a meeting of the G-7 leaders on Sunday to develop a coordinated response to the brazen assault, according to news reports. His comments came as American forces joined efforts to down drones and missiles launched by Tehran. Israel said it and its allies have intercepted the vast majority of more than 200 drones and missiles launched by Iran. "Earlier today, Iran and its proxies operating out of Yemen, Syria, and Iraq launched an unprecedented air attack against military facilities in Israel. I condemn these attacks in the strongest possible terms," Biden said after his call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Biden said at his direction, to support the defence of Israel, the US military moved aircraft and ballistic missile defence destroyers to the region over the past week.

"Thanks to these deployments and the extraordinary skill of our service members, we helped Israel take down nearly all of the incoming drones and missiles. I’ve just spoken with Prime Minister Netanyahu to reaffirm America’s ironclad commitment to the security of Israel," he said.

Lebanon-based militant group Hezbollah said that it had launched a fresh barrage of rockets towards the Israeli-annexed Golan Heights, hours after it joined in a major Iranian drone and missile attack targeting Israel, acording to news agency AFP.

Iran-backed Hezbollah, which has regularly traded cross-border fire with Israel since the start of the ongoing war in Gaza, said in a statement that it had launched “dozens of Katyusha rockets” at three Israeli military positions in the Golan, which Israel seized from Syria in the Six-Day War of 1967, AFP further added.

On Saturday, April 13, 17 Indian nationals, including the Master, were among the 25 crew members on board the Portuguese-flagged cargo vessel MSC Aries, which has affiliations with Israel, that was seized by Iran in the Gulf of Hormuz. "We are aware that a cargo ship ‘MSC Aries’ has been taken control of by Iran. We have learned that there are 17 Indian nationals onboard. We are in touch with the Iranian authorities through diplomatic channels, both in Tehran and in Delhi, to ensure the security, welfare and early release of Indian nationals," the ANI reported citing sources.

The Indian government's Ministry of External Affairs reacted to the ongoing situation in Tel Aviv, as Iran launches a retaliatory attack on Israel. In a statement, the MEA said: "We are seriously concerned at the escalation of hostilities between Israel and Iran which threatens the peace and security in the region. We call for immediate de-escalation, exercise of restraint, stepping back from violence and return to the path of diplomacy.... We are closely monitoring the evolving situation. Our Embassies in the region are in close touch with Indian community. It is vital that security and stability are maintained in the region."

In the early hours of Sunday morning, shots were fired outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan's house in Bandra. In a statement, the Mumbai police said, "Today at around 5 am, two unidentified people opened fire outside the house of actor Salman Khan in Bandra. Police have received information about 3 rounds of firing. Mumbai Police's Crime Branch has reached the spot for investigation."

The US shot down Iranian drones that were headed to Israel after Tehran launched its retaliatory attack early on Sunday. The UK meanwhile said its Royal Air Force (RAF) would intercept drones "as required". Both US president Joe Biden and UK prime minister Rishi Sunak have put out statements condemning Iran's attack and reiterated their support for Israel.

In a statement he put out on X, the UK PM said: "I condemn in the strongest terms the Iranian regime's reckless attack against Israel. Iran has once again demonstrated that it is intent on sowing chaos in its own backyard. The UK will continue to stand up for Israel's security and that of all our regional partners, including Jordan and Iraq. Alongside our allies, we are urgently working to stabilise the situation and prevent further escalation. No one wants to see more bloodshed."
