“Sexist” Questions

The United Nations officially celebrated the first International Women’s Day in 1975, but it was first observed at scale 111 years go – a million people across Europe came out in support of women’s right to work, vote and hold public office in 1911.
111 years on, we have come a long way. And yet, we still have a long way to go towards achieving an equal world.
Women still face prejudices – big and small – on the daily. Some of the most pervasive and insidious prejudices are sexisms: gendered comments that have become so commonplace that they’re commonly ignored, and continue to perpetuate prejudices and hinder women.

You would’ve heard a lot of these comments, too:
Why is she so bossy?
Why are girls such terrible drivers?
Women are generally bad at math/tech/science, how come you’re so good?...
The following is a small attempt by Moneycontrol, to chip away at this pervasive problem with the best tools imaginable – a bit of humour and a lot of sass.

By Preeti Verma Lal.

You won't be able to go far in those heels.

I will. Maybe you should also try the leadership insoles.

What are you worried about? Your husband makes a lot of money.

He sure does. But he is not my ATM.

Your husband is okay with you dressing like that to work?

He is not my stylist. He is not even Anna Wintour.

Can you get along with the men in the office?

It is an office not a relationship battleground.

All these young girls getting themselves pregnant.

Wow! Self-impregnating teenage girls - we as women are evolving at alarming rates.

Has anyone told you that you nag too much?

My life is not a reality show. I need no judges on the panel.

How are you so thin?

How are you so thick?

You must have been the only girl in your engineering class; did you get asked out a lot?

Let me lead the conversation – you clearly need help.

You continued to study after marriage?

Yes, I still had my brains and books about.

Women are so much better at picking out the corporate gifts.

We can’t do everything we are better at.
