Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking in Brazil on Tuesday, reiterated India’s zero-tolerance policy on terrorism as he pointed to expanding cooperation with Brazil across key sectors including defence, agriculture, health, and others.
“Our thinking on the fight against terrorism is aligned -- zero tolerance and zero double standards. Our clear stance is that there is no place for double standards on terrorism. We strongly oppose terrorism and those who support it."
During his visit to Brazil, the Prime Minister met Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and thanked him for the solidarity and support in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terrorist attack that claimed 26 lives.
PM Modi informed that India and Brazil are working together on the adoption of UPI in Brazil. “We would be happy to share India’s successful experiences in areas like digital public infrastructure and space with Brazil. Our cooperation in the fields of agriculture and animal husbandry spans decades. We will also work together on agricultural research and food processing,” he said.
Modi was also conferred with Brazil's highest civilian award, the Grand Collar of the National Order of the Southern Cross.
According to MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, during their meet, PM Modi and the Brazilian President held extensive discussions on the India-Brazil multifaceted ties -- including trade and investment, defence and security, health and pharmaceuticals, space, renewable energy, food and energy security, infrastructure development, digital public infrastructure, culture and people-to-people ties and explored avenues for collaboration in the new areas of critical minerals, new and emerging technologies, AI and supercomputers, digital collaboration and mobility.
“They set a bilateral trade target of USD 20 billion over the next five years. They also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest,” he added.
