AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, on Saturday, hinted that his party could back the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar. However, any such support would depend on concrete steps to uplift the long-neglected Seemanchal region, he stated.
The AIMIM leader was addressing a rally in Bihar's Amour.
Owaisi, while addressing the gathering, pointed out that Seemanchal continues to remain stuck at the bottom of Bihar’s development ladder, grappling with river erosion, corruption and mass migration. He argued that the state government must move beyond a Patna-centric model of growth.
“We are prepared to support this government, but Seemanchal must receive justice,” he noted. “Why should development be limited to Patna and Rajgir?" questioned Owaisi.

It should be mentioned here that the northeastern region, which has a substantial Muslim population and is largely rural, faces annual flooding from the Kosi river.
Despite the NDA’s strong showing across Bihar, it managed to secure only 14 of Seemanchal’s 24 seats.
In the 2025 Assembly elections in Bihar, AIMIM retained its presence by winning five constituencies, replicating its 2020 performance. That earlier victory had been dented when four MLAs defected to the RJD; this time, Owaisi said, the party will adopt stricter internal checks.
He also announced that each AIMIM MLA will mark attendance in their constituency office twice a week and submit photographs along with live WhatsApp locations. The system, he added, would be rolled out within six months, and he himself would visit the region twice annually.
Furthermore, taking a dig at the opposition, Owaisi remarked that he had repeatedly projected that the RJD would struggle to counter the BJP. “I urge those still relying on the MY combination to rethink their assumptions,” he said.
Reaffirming that his demand for justice in Seemanchal cuts across communities, Owaisi added, “This is not just about Muslims. Hindus, Dalits and tribal communities also live here. Majlis stands for all of them.”
